The Ladies Fourth Division team has, like others, experienced rather a disrupted and uncertain season. The heat cancelled two games, one was rained off and there were two Byes.
Despite the trials and tributes, we have new players bringing our numbers to 10 – this includes Dot Leeson who we borrow from Claremont. Trish Pianta joined up in the winter and has played in most of the season’s ladies pennants as well as contributing to the Division 6 men’s games along with Betsy Tapley (Ladies Captain), Anne Ormsley and Bec Byrne.
Karen Elliot joined us last year and has stepped up to play in third position when needed. Bec Byrne played regularly for much of the season but has had to step back from the last couple of Tuesday pennants because she was successful in winning a new career opportunity. We all wish her well and hope she can negotiate time off to play next season.
Several team members have been struggling with family responsibilities and illness. Lesley Langley, a stalwart of long-standing, fell and broke her pelvis before Christmas and has been recuperating since. We are all hoping she makes a full recovery since we sorely miss her bowling prowess.
We have not needed to call on the men for help as much as in previous years however we are very grateful for the contribution made by Ray Fells and Phil Lawler who stepped up when needed.
We finished in fourth position when Osborne Park forfeited our last match and despite winning the aggregate in our penultimate match against the first-ranked club, Joondalup.
We look forward to playing again in the winter season at Innaloo and taking part in the Mixed Pairs competition at the end of the season and running our Singles Championship again this year.
